Jacqueline Loughery (born April 18, 1930), sometimes credited as Evelyn Avery, is an American actress and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss USA 1952, becoming the first-ever winner of the Miss USA competition. She had previously been crowned Miss New York USA 1952
In 1952, Loughery won the Miss USA title after a second ballot broke a first-place tie. Loughery, a redhead, went on to represent the US at the first Miss Universe pageant, where she placed ninth.
Part of her prize package as Miss USA included a contract with Universal Pictures, which led to a career in movies and television. She adopted the stage name Evelyn Avery, but is more often credited with her own name (the name she used when she won the Miss USA title).
